Ensemble Sooon are a collective of virtuoso musicians with wide-ranging interests in notation, improvisation, poetry, and movement. They have released three studio albums on Made No Music and two compilations with Oscillo Scape, recorded live at Alchemix Studios. Their latest release Septet For the End of Messiaen by composer Martin Kay, defies categories, slicing and dicing the Music of Olivier Messiaen into a virtuosic array of new composition and improvisational plinths, creating a sonic landscape responding to the apocalyptic and darkly humorous poetry of Brentley Frazer; Performed at the Brisbane International Jazz Festival. Engineered by artistic directors Danielle Bentley, mastermind of the Restrung festival and Martin Kay, Lecturer in Saxophone at the Queensland Conservatorium, the ensemble performs regularly throughout Brisbane.
